Reinterpreted construction site materials starred on the Paris set of Lecavalier's show, one of an ongoing collaboration with Paf Atelier.

Key features

The AW22 presentation of Canadian womenswear fashion designer Marie-Ève Lecavalier took place at the Palais de Tokyo. Its straightforward set was rich in materials and colours, influenced by hallucinogenic arrays and the moiré effect. Models walked a maze designed to reinterpret an urban avenue, studded with graffiti-painted metal structures – real street fences – standing on concrete feet. Rented from a company specified in building materials to reduce environmental impact, they'll be used again on construction sites after the show. The industrial elements were contrasted by burned wooden blocks. Artificial smoke added another dimension to the show.

Frame's take

Lecavalier’s AW22 collection takes inspiration from the working-class Montreal suburb of Saint-Hubert, where the designer grew up. The set’s construction materials communicate the designer's love of industrial pieces and craftsmanship. Combining impeccable, innovative craftsmanship and meticulous material research, Lecavalier is best known for her unique interlocking leather technique and eco-friendly upcycled vintage denim.

With exception of the rented fences, the set materials will be stored in Paf Atelier’s warehouse. The studio has created a library of props that can be reused and transformed for other Lecavalier shows. For instance, the burnt wooden blocks made their second appearance, present at the SS22 show. This set exemplifies Paf Atelier’s philosophy of bringing design and production more closely together, from the choice of materials to how a project is assembled, and adopting a responsible, ethical, and sustainable approach.
